Treat Your Hands to Homemade Hand Wraps

Updated on April 22, 2012

If you’re anything like myself, you’re probably already familiar with the concept of home facials, homemade skin care products, and manicures and pedicures, but have you ever tried hand wraps? I was completely unfamiliar with the term until a few months back, and I’m so glad I learned about it! Body wraps are better known, and are often done in spas and beauty retreats, and the hand wrap can be seen as its ‘little sister’. Wrap treatments can be done on both the hand and feet, and can really give your hands (and feet) the pampering they deserve without the spa price tag!

The Basics

You’ll need the following:

2 Towels

2 Rubber gloves or plastic bags

Hand cream or homemade hand mask

Instructions:

You should get everything together and start by washing and exfoliating your hands. This will help get rid of any dead skin cells and will help the treatment penetrate better. Dampen the towels slightly and then place them in the microwave for anywhere between 30 seconds and 1 minute.

Put a generous slather of hand cream onto your hands and slide them into the plastic bags or gloves. Now carefully place your hands in between the warm towels. Make sure that your hands are covered completely and relax for 15 minutes. Once you’re done, take off the towels, remove the gloves or bags, and then wash off the excess cream.

Homemade Hand Mask Recipe

If you’d like to give your hands an extra special treat, try making an avocado and olive oil hand mask. This will take your homemade hand wraps to the next level and will take care of even the driest skin. Avocado is rich in natural oils and this makes it a brilliant choice to nourish and moisturize the skin and cuticles. Olive oil is also a natural moisturizer and contains antioxidants to ward off free-radical damage. Mash up a ripe avocado and mix in two tablespoons of olive oil to make the mask. It’s quick and easy, and will provide an intensively-moisturizing mask to use when doing hand wraps at home.

Once you know how, you’ll never have to visit a beauty salon to give your hands or feet a luxurious pampering. You’ll not only be able to use all-natural ingredients but will also save a significant amount of money over time. This is also the perfect way to pamper your hands and can be a fun activity for your next girls’ night in.
