5 Simple DIY Nail Art Designs: Easy Blue Nail Ideas for Beginners

Updated on May 14, 2012

Blue is one of my favorite colors for DIY nail art designs, and I’ve realized that I have done quite a few simple and easy designs that are suitable for even beginners to try at home. Most of the designs I do are fairly simple and can be completed in less than 30 minutes, so I decided to share some of my favorites. One of these designs is not mine, but I’ve linked back to the creator so she can get credit for it.

The nail art design above is a very simple one and yet it really has a certain something about it. I started by painting the nail in one shade of blue and then added random dots of blue on top of it. One color polish had glitter in it, so that created a gem-like effect. The best thing about this nail design is that anyone can do it, and all you need is a set of dotting tools and a few shades of blue nail polish.

This nail art design is another very simple one, and can be done even by someone who does not have a steady hand. The French tips were painted on using a light purple polish and I then added random dots on top. I finished it off with two types of glitter polish, both were clear but one had silver glitter in it and the other had blue glitter in it. So, in essence, it's a combination of a polka dot and a glitter tip.

This is another simple nail art design, but may take a little more practice. I started by painting the entire nail blue and then added glitter polish in a slightly different shade with a makeup sponge. I waited for that to dry and then painted the flowers on top using acrylic pain in white and blue. The hexagon glitters went on last.

This is one of my all-time favorite blue nail art designs. The sideswipe tip with white border just seems to work for me. I used dotting tools in various sizes to add the dots along the edges. If you want to, you could use a clear polish on the base of the nail. In the image, I used a nude one.

This design is not mine, but my jaw dropped to the floor when I saw this. The simplicity of it is a part of what makes it so amazing. I've never seen the beads or decals (whatever you call 'em) this woman used, but they're stunning. They look like half pearls but they're metallic and it seems like they were just stuck onto a blue shimmery polish. Pure Brilliance, and I'm willing to bet this design is super easy to do as well.

I'm constantly on the lookout for new and interesting easy DIY nail art designs and ideas, and I hope to share a lot more of my own designs and discoveries. If you liked the designs for beginners, or would like to see something specific, please comment. I'd love to hear your thoughts!
